Volunteer Program
The Kentucky Center has over 500 active and friendly volunteers who contributed over 60,000 hours of service last year.
The Kentucky Center Volunteers are well-trained and knowledgeable about the Center and the events we have to offer. They are the face of The Kentucky Center to our local arts patrons, the first to greet them when they arrive for an event and the last face they see as they leave.
Volunteers fill a variety of roles here at The Kentucky Center. These include ticket takers, ushers, greeters, tour guides, bus assistants, as well as manning our information desk and coat check, and providing important support for our administrative functions and Access Services Program.
The Kentucky Center Volunteer Program recognizes the variety of time commitments that some very dedicated individuals can make. Therefore, we have developed four distinct programs to meet those various needs.
The Apprentice Volunteer Program is for groups that wish to volunteer for select shows only once or twice a year. The Apprentice Program is perfect for corporate groups, social groups and school groups that are looking for community service engagements without making a long term commitment. If you have a company, business or group that is interested in learning more about this program, contact Volunteer Services at 562-0716.
The Chorus Volunteer Program is open to individuals between the ages of 16 and 23 who are enrolled in school full time. The Chorus Program Volunteers are required to provide 40 hours of service per year.
The Conductor Volunteer Program is open to individuals who work full time (35 or more hours a week) or who are over the age of 23 and who go to school full time (12 or more hours a semester). The Conductor Program Volunteers are required to provide 60 hours of service per year.
The Producer Volunteer Program is open to any individuals 16 or over who do not meet the requirements for Chorus or Conductor Volunteers. Producer Program Volunteers are required to provide 80 hours of service per year. This is currently our largest volunteer group.
Although all volunteers are special, we have several exceptionally giving persons who have taken special training to be a part of the Center's Access Services. These include Audio Description for patrons who are blind or have low vision and Caption Theater for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The next Volunteer Orientation will be taking place at The Kentucky Center in the Fall of 2012.
Unfortunately, due to the scope of the program and the knowledge base required of our volunteers, we do not offer short-term volunteer opportunities for individuals.
If you have a few hours a month and you would like to spend some time with us, you may e-mail us or call the number below and we will be happy to add your name to our mailing list for the next New Volunteer Training.
