Artist sketching

Kentucky’s heritage of art and artists is unparalleled, just like the commitment of The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts to Kentucky’s next generation of young artists. Every summer, GSA and its faculty of professional teaching artists guide over two hundred of Kentucky’s finest young artists through three weeks of incredibly intense (and incredibly fun) arts instruction. It’s a thrilling, often life-changing experience.

What’s more, every fall, GSA holds free, one-day ArtShops throughout the Commonwealth, reaching into all corners of Kentucky to offer high school students the opportunity to learn under experienced, professional teaching artists.

“Without GSA, I never would have gone away to college, lived in four different states and cities, or have taken an interest in Creative Writing at the undergraduate level. The guidance, mentoring and fellowship provided by GSA is essential for first and second generation college students in rural areas who may not have opportunities to receive concentrated training with people of like mind and talent. It must continue.” - Elizabeth Reid Jennings, Creative Writing 1998, Carlisle County
