Louisville Orchestra
From the Sea

Dive into this beautiful concert about the watery world. Sea nymphs, wind, waves, and water have inspired composers and film-makers to create masterpieces of orchestral music.

JEAN SIBELIUS:  The Oceanides
GARTH NEUSTADTER:  Seaborne, for strings, percussion, and film

Teddy Abrams, conductor

Water – the essential element of life – is explored in this vivid program featuring six members of The Percussion Collective. From the mythological sea nymphs of The Oceanides to Seaborne, a work by a Grammy-Award winning composer with percussion solos and a stunning film shot in Hawaii, this program offers an expansive look at music depicting bodies of water.

Become River flows through the orchestra with an innovative stage setting and the performance closes with the magnificent La Mer by French composer Claude Debussy.

Jean SIBELIUS:  The Oceanides
Garth NEUSTADTER: Seaborne
John Luther ADAMS:  Become River
Claude DEBUSSY:  La Mer

The Percussion Collective, 2 pianos, 2 marimbas, 2 xylophones
Teddy Abrams, conductor
