Kentucky to the World
in collaboration with The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts presents
Republic Bank Foundation Speaker Series
Life of an Olympic Champion
Mary T. Meagher & Kelsi Worrell Dahlia

Imagine you’re on the world stage. People from around the globe are watching you, critiquing you, and telling you who you should be without knowing who you truly are in the first place. You have the support of your country, but it’s contingent on your success. You’re not even 25 years old, and the pressure of the world is on your shoulders. How do you handle it? And what happens after you succeed?

WHAS 11's Whitney Harding will explore these very questions in a conversation with Louisville’s own Olympic Gold Medalists Mary T. Meagher and Kelsi Worrell Dahlia.

Mary T. Meagher, a world record holder and 3-time Olympic Gold champion born and raised in Louisville, Ky, is coming back home to share her story. Known as “Madame Butterfly”, Mary T. successfully competed in the 1984 Olympics, and has since retired from swimming. Joining Mary T. on stage is Kelsi Worrell Dahlia. Kelsi, Louisville’s newest Olympic resident and a UofL graduate, is a world record holder and won gold in swimming at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Exactly 30 years apart in age and both specialists in the butterfly stroke, Mary T. and Kelsi have a lot in common. They’ll talk about how many things have changed in the world of swimming -- and how many haven’t -- as well as how Kentucky impacted their path to success. Most importantly, they’ll discuss how to navigate life when it seems like your greatest accomplishment is behind you, and whether or not winning gold really is the most important thing when you look at the bigger picture of life, love, and parenthood.

Join us on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 as we dive deep into their stories about life in, out, and after the pool.
