General Audition Instructions & Checklist

Dance
The audition consists of a class in ballet and modern dance.  Bring your dance clothes, including your pointe shoes for ballet and footless tights for the modern dance portion of the audition.  Dancers are required to have 20 resumes/headshots. Send in your registration and resume/headshot combinations to GSA.  These cannot be brought day of.

Drama
Prepare two monologues of contrasting styles. You will have 3 minutes total for your audition. Actors are required to have 30 resumes/headshots.  Complete your registration and send in resume/headshot combinations to GSA.  These cannot be brought day of.

Instrumental Music
Prepare a short solo. You will have 5 minutes to present your audition (percussion auditions will be 10 minutes long to accommodate set up and tear down of equipment.  A piano accompanist will be provided for your audition if your solo requires piano accompaniment. Recorded accompaniments are not acceptable.  Instrumental Musicians are required to have 20 resumes/headshots. Complete your registration and send in resume/headshot combinations to GSA.  These cannot be brought day of.

Musical Theatre
Prepare a short vocal selection and a very short monologue. You will have 3 minutes total to present your audition. GSA will provide a piano accompanist for your audition and warm-up. MT students have the option of participating in a 30-minute jazz and tap dance audition prior to their monologue and song. Please indicate on your registration form if you plan to attend the dance portion of the audition. Musical Theatre artists are required to have 30 resumes/headshots or provide 50 resumes/headshots if participating in the MT dance masterclass. Complete your registration and send in resume/headshot combinations to GSA.  These cannot be brought day of.

Vocal Music
Singers should prepare two works in contrasting musical styles. You will have five minutes to present your audition. Memorize your selections.  At least one selection must be in English.  A piano accompanist will be provided for your audition.  Recorded accompaniments are not acceptable. Singers are required to have 20 resumes/headshots. Complete your registration and send in resume/headshot combinations to GSA.  These cannot be brought day of.

In order to audition, you must complete/send all above materials to GSA no later than September 27. Late registration and materials will not be accepted.

 

For those students who send their music by September 27, a rehearsal time with the accompanist will be scheduled as not to interfere with your audition time. Only students that mail music will be granted a scheduled appointment with the accompanist. Additionally, for Musical Theatre students, the run-through with the accompanist will not interfere with the optional dance audition.
