Pricing:

Program Information:
Tchaikovsky’s IOLANTA

Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Libretto by Modeste Tchaikovsky, after the drama KING RENÉ’S DAUGHTER by Henrik Hertz
Sung in Russian with English supertitles

Kentucky Opera and the Louisville Orchestra present a concert version of Tchaikovsky’s final opera IOLANTA. Jorge Mester leads this company premiere and inspirational love story of a blind princess who finds both her sight and her true love. What better way to end the season than with a beautiful love story and a happy ending? Internationally-acclaimed soprano Anna Shafjinskaia performs Iolanta with additional artists from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.

A concert opera is comprised of professional vocalists and musicians presenting semi-staged versions of full-length operas. The full orchestra appears on stage with the chorus and soloists. The soloists usually do not adorn costumes and there is no set. Concert operas are unique opportunities for musicians and vocalists to showcase their talent in unique roles.
