What to Bring to an ArtShop
ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN
Bring samples of your work (2-3 pieces) in any media. You will participate in a hands-on architecture workshop and receive individual pointers on your work with suggestions on how to prepare your portfolio. Be sure to wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty (activities will vary per site).
Bring your ideas, writing samples, pencil and paper for an information-packed, “hands-on” writing workshop.
You will participate in a ballet/modern/composition dance master class. Please wear appropriate dance attire (leotard and tights for ladies, t-shirt and tights for men) and secure your hair away from your face. If you do not have a leotard, please wear clothing that is not too baggy and allows you to MOVE! Bring ballet shoes if you have them, although bare feet are preferred for modern dance. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle with you.
Please prepare a 60-90 second monologue. You will participate in a “hands-on” drama and improvisation workshop and receive individual suggestions about your monologue. We recommend that your monologue be memorized, if at all possible. Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Bring your instrument and a solo piece on which you would like assistance. You will participate in a “hands-on” instrumental workshop with other instrumentalists, play your solos for each other and have ample opportunity to ask questions. Please also be prepared to play scales. Pianos are the only instruments that will be provided. Large percussionist instruments (marimbas, timpani, drum sets) may be provided only if the workshop site agrees to allow GSA the use of the instruments and if the student notifies the GSA administration in advance of the ArtShop.
The musical theatre workshop is designed to provide guidance on what to expect at the audition and guidance in regards to your audition material. Although not absolutely required, please bring two theatrical songs – one up-tempo and one ballad. Please be sure that you bring music for the workshop accompanist. Also select and prepare a one to two minute monologue. By providing this material, you will be able to receive assistance and pointers specifically designed for your audition. If you can’t provide all the material you will receive guidance on how to find and select material to meet your needs.

You will participate in a “hands-on” workshop and receive individual pointers on your work with suggestions on how to prepare your portfolio. Please bring a pen/pencil and paper. IF AVAILABLE, please bring digital cameras, video cameras and/or laptop computers to use during workshop. Activities will vary per site, but may include clay animation, film making, screen writing, digital photography, etc.
